@aws-sdk/client-networkflowmonitor

Description

AWS SDK for JavaScript NetworkFlowMonitor Client for Node.js, Browser and React Native.

Network Flow Monitor is a feature of Amazon CloudWatch Network Monitoring that provides visibility into the performance of network flows for your Amazon Web Services workloads, between instances in subnets, as well as to and from Amazon Web Services. Lightweight agents that you install on the instances capture performance metrics for your network flows, such as packet loss and latency, and send them to the Network Flow Monitor backend. Then, you can view and analyze metrics from the top contributors for each metric type, to help troubleshoot issues.

In addition, when you create a monitor, Network Flow Monitor provides a network health indicator (NHI) that informs you whether there were Amazon Web Services network issues for one or more of the network flows tracked by a monitor, during a time period that you choose. By using this value, you can independently determine if the Amazon Web Services network is impacting your workload during a specific time frame, to help you focus troubleshooting efforts.

To learn more about Network Flow Monitor, see the Network Flow Monitor User Guide in the Amazon CloudWatch User Guide.

Installing

To install this package, use the CLI of your favorite package manager:

  • npm install @aws-sdk/client-networkflowmonitor
  • yarn add @aws-sdk/client-networkflowmonitor
  • pnpm add @aws-sdk/client-networkflowmonitor

Getting Started

Import

The AWS SDK is modulized by clients and commands. To send a request, you only need to import the NetworkFlowMonitorClient and the commands you need, for example ListScopesCommand:

// ES5 example
const { NetworkFlowMonitorClient, ListScopesCommand } = require("@aws-sdk/client-networkflowmonitor");
// ES6+ example
import { NetworkFlowMonitorClient, ListScopesCommand } from "@aws-sdk/client-networkflowmonitor";

Usage

To send a request:

  • Instantiate a client with configuration (e.g. credentials, region).
  • Instantiate a command with input parameters.
  • Call the send operation on the client, providing the command object as input.
const client = new NetworkFlowMonitorClient({ region: "REGION" });

const params = { /** input parameters */ };
const command = new ListScopesCommand(params);

Async/await

We recommend using the await operator to wait for the promise returned by send operation as follows:

// async/await.
try {
  const data = await client.send(command);
  // process data.
} catch (error) {
  // error handling.
} finally {
  // finally.
}

Promises

You can also use Promise chaining.

client
  .send(command)
  .then((data) => {
    // process data.
  })
  .catch((error) => {
    // error handling.
  })
  .finally(() => {
    // finally.
  });

Aggregated client

The aggregated client class is exported from the same package, but without the "Client" suffix.

NetworkFlowMonitor extends NetworkFlowMonitorClient and additionally supports all operations, waiters, and paginators as methods. This style may be familiar to you from the AWS SDK for JavaScript v2.

If you are bundling the AWS SDK, we recommend using only the bare-bones client (NetworkFlowMonitorClient). More details are in the blog post on modular packages in AWS SDK for JavaScript.

import { NetworkFlowMonitor } from "@aws-sdk/client-networkflowmonitor";

const client = new NetworkFlowMonitor({ region: "REGION" });

// async/await.
try {
  const data = await client.listScopes(params);
  // process data.
} catch (error) {
  // error handling.
}

// Promises.
client
  .listScopes(params)
  .then((data) => {
    // process data.
  })
  .catch((error) => {
    // error handling.
  });

// callbacks (not recommended).
client.listScopes(params, (err, data) => {
  // process err and data.
});

Troubleshooting

When the service returns an exception, the error will include the exception information, as well as response metadata (e.g. request id).

try {
  const data = await client.send(command);
  // process data.
} catch (error) {
  const { requestId, cfId, extendedRequestId } = error.$metadata;
  console.log({ requestId, cfId, extendedRequestId });
  /**
   * The keys within exceptions are also parsed.
   * You can access them by specifying exception names:
   * if (error.name === 'SomeServiceException') {
   *     const value = error.specialKeyInException;
   * }
   */
}

See also docs/ERROR_HANDLING.

Getting Help

Please use these community resources for getting help. We use GitHub issues for tracking bugs and feature requests, but have limited bandwidth to address them.

Contributing

This client code is generated automatically. Any modifications will be overwritten the next time the @aws-sdk/client-networkflowmonitor package is updated. To contribute to client you can check our generate clients scripts.
